Week Seven's Work
Representing
S-p-e-e-d
Either
add to what you’re already working on
Or
write about a quarter of a page
Representing speed
focusing on the visual and developing
the technique of picking out particular details
to given an
impression of the overall scene.
Also
Try very hard to avoid overworked speed words
such
as ‘flashed’,
‘leapt’, ‘sped’. On the whole the best approach
is to describe NOT the speed itself, but what
the
narrator sees – either from inside (say) a vehicle, or
from outside watching.
Describing speed is like describing the
wind:
you have to look at the effects
Impressionistic:
What your eyes see
Expressionistic:
What your feelings ‘see’
